Daniel F. Lieuwen is a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff in the Network Data and Services Research Department at Bell Laboratories, a division of Lucent Technologies.
His early research focused on object-oriented databases (particularly Ode), materialized views, and active databases, and databases-on-the-web. This led to work on LTAP (Lightweight Trigger Access Protocol), a standards compliant gateway to provide trigger services to LDAP users. This project was used in the Definitively Intuitive project which supplies integrated administration and query access for converged voice/data networks through an LDAP interface. This project was later commercialized at the Avaya Enterprise Directory Gateway. He has also been involved in the WebVCR project. More recently, he has worked on the LambdaRouter.
Lieuwen attended Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan where he studied mathematics and computer science (and a fair bit of German). He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He joined Bell Laboratories in 1992.
